Pocklington School was a hive of activity over the Easter break as it welcomed musicians from the City of Sheffield Youth Orchestra (CSYO) and young cricketers training with the Byas Academy to its 50 acre campus.
The CSYO has been holding its popular annual spring residential course at the School since 2006 and makes full use of the facilities at the School, including the Tom Stoppard Theatre, the Music School and the boarding houses.
The Orchestra is Sheffield's oldest and only completely independent youth orchestra, and offers membership to students up to the age of 21.
The CSYO spring course is specially designed to allow students who are preparing to take academic exams in the summer the time and space to revise, in addition to being able to practise their music.
Over the five days, the students rehearsed together, learning new pieces and preparing for their Spring Concert in Sheffield Cathedral.
In addition to the CSYO musicians, 22 young cricketers attended the Byas Academy cricket camp at Pocklington School over Easter. Led by ex-Yorkshire County Cricket Captain David Byas and three other expert coaches, the Byas Academy camp attracts all standards of players from the age of eight to sixteen years old and includes a wide range of drills, technical development and game based activities.
The Byas Academy also hosts hockey and rugby camps at Pocklington School during the Christmas and summer holidays, making use of its 21 acres of grass pitches, two full size, sand dressed synthetic pitches and sports hall.
Andrew D’Arcy, Domestic Bursar at Pocklington School said: “We have great facilities for hire at Pocklington School during the holidays and it’s great to welcome back the Byas Academy and the CSYO. There is plenty of space for everyone and from what I saw on the pitches and heard in the theatre and music school, all of our guests had a great time.”
