    Welcome to Boarding

    A home from home

We are proud of the home-from-home quality of our boarding facilities which provide some of the best boarding accommodation in the UK.

Our four single sex boarding houses are located on or adjacent to the school campus: Orchard and Faircote for Girls, and Dolman and Fenwick-Smith for boys. Each house is managed by a team of caring professional staff which focuses on the personal well-being of the individuals in their care. Housemasters and Housemistresses provide the link between home and school, helping you to maintain a close relationship with your child. Three school nurses (who work in our onsite medical centre) and two locally based school doctors look after the health of our community.

Boarding families are encouraged to visit and to maintain contact with their children and parents are required to appoint a UK guardian for one-to-one contact and pupil support when parents cannot be present. Boarding houses are equipped with telephone, internet and Skype facilities to ensure easy communication with home and we are happy to help boarders with transport arrangements for exeat weekends, half-terms and holidays.

Our boarding provision is designed to be as flexible as possible. Pupils can board either on a full-time or weekly basis, or just for one or two nights during the week. Boarding offers routine, structure, academic support and less time in a daily commute. It can also offer overnight accommodation for pupils involved in late rehearsals or concerts. More information is available in ‘Boarding Options’.

Boarding helps pupils to become more independent, fosters deep friendships between pupils and enables them to become well integrated and to participate fully in the life of the school community. Our boarding houses allow pupils to thrive emotionally, socially and academically. Boarding grows leadership, teamwork and tolerance.

If you think your family would benefit from boarding at Pocklington School come and talk to us about the possibilities.

Better still come for a taster!
