    School Policies

    The Governors and all staff of the Foundation are committed to providing a safe and secure environment for our pupils in order to safeguard them from harm.

    Child Protection Policy

    Adults looking after children or young people in schools should be aware of the risks of abuse (by adults or other young people), and take steps to reduce those risks. The Pocklington Foundation works within the guidance and procedures of East Riding Safeguarding Children Partnership (ERSCP) (see East Riding of Yorkshire Council The Foundation is careful to follow the government recommendations on gathering information and carrying out checks (Keeping Children Safe In Education – September 2019).

    All employees have a responsibility:

    a) For promoting and safeguarding the welfare of children and young persons with whom they come into contact.

    b) Adhering to and ensuring compliance with the Foundation’s Child Protection Policy Statements at all times.

    c) Reporting any concerns to the Designated Safeguarding Leads or to the Headmaster of either school, if in the course of carrying out their duties they become aware of any actual or potential risks to the safety or welfare or children in the two schools.

    The following individuals have specific responsibility for Child Protection: 

    Mr Steve Burke is the Child Protection Governor with responsibility for annual review. An annual review of the school’s safeguarding policies and procedures will be undertaken as part of the annual return to the DCSF. 

    Mr Martin Davies is the Pastoral Director 

    Mrs Clare Swann is the Designated Safeguarding Lead for Pocklington School. 

    Mrs Bonnie Steel is the Prep School (incorporating the EYFS) Designated Safeguarding Lead.

    Safer Recruitment Policy

    Preventing those who might wish to harm or abuse children and young persons from entering the workforce is therefore a top priority. The Foundation is very careful to follow the government recommendations (Keeping Children Safe In Education – September 2019) on gathering information, screening and carrying out checks on all new recruits. Thereafter all staff are committed to remaining vigilant and maintaining the highest standards of child protection in the schools and amongst colleagues. Applicants must be willing to undergo child protection screening appropriate to the post, including checks with past employers and the Disclosure and Barring Service.
